Abstract
‘Fine Pitch’ and ‘High speed printing’ are relative terms but many solder paste users see capability in meeting these two requirements as their major goals for process improvements. Not surprisingly, solder paste rheology governs both, and this paper describes how the complex relationship between resins and solvent can lead to solder pastes with optimised performance. Work on the physical behaviour of resin solutions and how this relates to solder paste rheology is reported. These results are related to user experience on volume production processes.

Abstract
This work by well‐known authors, Chief of Applied Mechanics Division, Consultant, and Co‐ordination Director respectively of the Battelle Memorial Institute, Columbus, Ohio, has been sponsored by the Bureau of Aeronautics, Department of the Navy, who commissioned Battelle to survey the present state of knowledge. Such a survey must obviously be directed towards some particular objective. In the present case it was desired to summarize most of the information required by designers and engineers who may have some knowledge of, but no extensive practical experience in, fatigue problems.
This paper aims to review the developments in performance measurement over the last 20 years, reflecting on the past and projecting into the future.
Abstract
Purpose
This paper aims to review the developments in performance measurement over the last 20 years, reflecting on the past and projecting into the future.
Design/methodology/approach
The author presents a personal reflection on research and practice.
Findings
The paper identifies seven issues for management, seven issues for research and three enduring dilemmas.
Originality/value
The paper highlights a number of areas where developments from academic and practitioner co‐creation have not been widely adopted in practice.

Abstract
Purpose
This paper seeks to analyse the characteristics of performance measurement and management systems in public organizations and to highlight the main factors driving performance in this sector.
Design/methodology/approach
A literature review is carried out in order to outline the main issues related to the adoption and implementation of performance measurement and management systems in public organizations.
Findings
The paper provides better information on the performance measurement and management systems in public organizations, by analyzing the performance dimensions, the use of performance measures and the factors influencing the implementation of the performance management process.
Research limitations/implications
The paper presents a model for driving the implementation of a performance measurement system within public organizations and identifies the main factors influencing this process. The paper is conceptual in its nature and will be further developed through an empirical research investigating the role played by the identified factors.
Originality/value
The paper identifies the factors driving the performance management process in public organizations.
